Happy News from Eastman!

The Eastman School of Music bookstore will carry Kids Aren’t Lazy: Developing Motivation & Talent Through Music.  Kids Aren’t Lazy has been included in reading lists for select pedagogy courses (graduate and undergrad) at ESM this semester and last.

In other news, click HERE to check out a list of brilliant Eastman alumni who have been nominated for Grammy Awards! You can catch the Grammys this Sunday, February 10th.

Last but not least, click HERE to read about Eastman in a list of the 20 Best Colleges and Conservatories for Music in the US (listed alphabetically). Here’s a small snippet from the article:

Time and time again, Eastman has availed itself as one of the top conservatories in the world. You don’t have to look too deeply into the school to see why.
The faculty rate among the very best around the globe. You can take a look at any department and see what makes this school so incredibly amazing. . . . What we especially like about the school is its close-knit relationship to the University of Rochester, one of the premiere research universities in the country.
Eastman is exceptionally difficult to get into . . . but for those who want the balance of an incredible education with musicians on par with those studying at schools such as Juilliard, you cannot beat the Eastman experience.

LHS Senior Spotlight: Nikita

As we celebrate the end of this school year, I’m so thrilled to acknowlege everyone’s achievements. In particular, I’d like to recognize Nikita for her outstanding academic and musical accomplishments.

Nikita will graduate in June as Valedictorian at DeBakey High School. In addition to her musical achievements in middle and high school (including the Arts Supplement, Region, Houston Youth Symphony, LHS Showcase Concerts, Solo & Ensemble awards, performances at assisted living centers, and the Virtuosi of Houston Summer String Workshop), Nikita has demonstrated exceptional leadership as a violinist in our studio.

Nikita’s college acceptance letters included offers from UPenn, Rice, and the Houston Premedical Academy (HPA). Pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor, Nikita will attend the Houston Premedical Academy, an 8-year program that leads to graduation from the Baylor College of Medicine(!). Just 6 seniors per year are accepted into HPA. WOW, Nikita!

On a musical note, Nikita has accepted the position of Violin Teacher at Century Fine Arts in Sugar Land and is now welcoming new students into her very own studio!

Congratulations on your amazing accomplishments, Nikita! You have earned them all and we are thrilled for you and proud of you!
